The historical centre of Alghero \u2013\u00a0a fascinating maze of alleys \u2013 is one of the most attractive, time-honoured conurbations to be found anywhere in the world. You will love strolling along the cobbled streets, visiting the various little squares, and you are sure to be enchanted by the stunning glimpses and perspectives that this ancient city has to offer.<\/p>\n
Taking as your starting point the Port of Alghero, you will arrive in next to no time at the evocative Piazza Civica. From there, you can walk along Via Carlo Alberto, reaching the large Piazza Sulis before admiring the panoramic view from the bastions. If you then make your way along the side streets you will end up in Piazza del Teatro, home to the stunning Teatro Civico (Civic Theatre), constructed in 1862. Along the way you can see some of the most important buildings in Alghero: Palau Lavagna, with its sundial, which was added to the facade in 1866; Palau d\u2019Abis; Palau del Veguer; and, right on the sea front, an array of beautiful Art Nouveau villas.<\/p>\n
The Spanish towers are one of the defining features of the historical centre of Alghero. The largest and most important of these are the Torre di Sulis (aka the Torre dell\u2019Esper\u00f2 Reial), the Torre di San Giovanni and the Torre di Sant\u2019Elmo, which overlooks the city\u2019s harbour.<\/p>\n
